Major changes in Sakai 11

Interface Redesign

Sakai 11 has a completely new look-and-feel, designed to display well on mobile devices. This is definitely the biggest change!

Basic Navigation

  • After logging in to Sakai 11, click on the new Sites button to access your courses.
  • On the Sites menu, you can mark any site as a "favorite" by clicking the star next to the site title. Your "favorite" sites always appear along the top bar for quick access.
  • Within a course site, a few things have moved around:
    • The Publish button is now front and center.
    • Controls to "view site as student" are on the left, at the top of the course menu.
    • The top button on the course menu is now labeled "Overview". (Previously, it was labeled "Home".)

Other changes

Tests & Quizzes

  • Building and publishing tests is much the same.
  • A new question type called hot spot allows you to have students identify specific areas on an image (for example, a place on a map or a part of the body).
  • Settings options are much the same, but have been reorganized and streamlined into 4 sections. (There used to be 10!)

Minimal to no changes

The following tools have changed very little, if at all, in Sakai 11:

  • Announcements
  • Forums
  • Email/Email Archive
  • Blogs
  • Drop Box
  • Chat Room
  • Meetings
