==What is Sakai?==
In Fall 2012, over a dozen online classes at Durham Tech are being taught using a product called Sakai. You’re getting a head start. In future, all students at Durham Tech will be taught using Sakai (just like UNC-CH and Duke students). Instead of logging into Blackboard, students in these classes will log in to a Sakai server to access assignments, submit work, and communicate with classmates and the instructor.

What is Sakai?

Sakai is a system for accessing course materials online. Instructors use Sakai in a variety of ways – for example, to provide course information, handouts, assignments, tests, grades, or online discussions.

What computer hardware and software do I need to use Sakai?

To access a course on Sakai you need:

  • a computer (PC or Mac) with high-speed Internet access

    • Note: Credit students must use their ConnectMail email account (provided by Durham Tech)
  • a reasonably current web browser (Firefox or Chrome are recommended) - Download Firefox | Download Chrome
  • JavaScript and cookies enabled (How to enable javascript)

  • If your last name is long, your user name contains only the first 15 characters
  • User names do not contain spaces, hyphens, or other special characters

Your password is the same one you use to access Self-Service, ConnectMail, and other college systems.
