08/16/17 General Accessibility Information for Product Turnitin provides information on the accessibility of their product. They self-report on their Turnitin Accessibility page that they are not 100% WCAG2.0 Level AA compliant. They identify four areas they are working on:
  • Voice Comments: Turnitin does not have the ability to transcribe instructor voice comments into text.
  • Student submission: Text of a student submission is image-based and cannot be read by a screen reader in its default view.
  • Inline comments: Turnitin currently does not allow the ability to navigate to comments left inline within the paper with a keyboard (or screen reader).
Resolution pending. Turnitin recommends having the student download the text-only report. Instructions are provided on the Turnitin Accessibility page. Additional instructor suggestions include:
  • When leaving comments for students with hearing disabilities, Turnitin recommends instructors leave a text-based comment instead of a voice recording.
  • Students using a screen reader can access a text-only version of the similarity report by pressing Tab + Enter.
  • Students with vision impairments can download a text-based PDF of the report. When leaving comments, instructors should include the original text alongside their comments so that students can associate the instructor's comment with the text of their submission.
