Table of Office Mix Accessibility Notes
Date Issue Reported Issue Description Resolution Notes
09/14/17 General Accessibility Review of Product Performed keyboard access and general compatibility with JAWS screen reader. Testing conditions:
  • JAWS v18.0.4104
  • Chrome v60.0.3112.101 (KB/SR)
  • Firefox v45.8.0 (KB only)
  • IE v11.540.15063.0 (KB only)
  • Edge v40.15063.0.0 (KB only)

Product inaccessible

    • Students need equivalent access to the content:
      • Transcript option
        • create a transcript of video and include the questions (and other content, such as voice over or image description) at the proper location in the transcript
        • if feedback is provided in the EDpuzzle, feedback can similarly be provided in a second document that includes all of the questions from the first document and the correct answers
        • Limitations:
          • Second document will need some sort of "release trigger" so that student can receive it upon immediate submission of the 1st document (KMc suggested using the Assignments tool in Sakai to release the second document -- further testing required)
      • Video Segments
        • Embed the YouTube video in Sakai. Use Begin/End code snippets to mimic EDpuzzle's periodic pause. Use Sakai's Question tool to ask questions and provide additional content, such as images, voiceover, etc.
          • Limitations:
  • Turning captions on overrides the Viewer controls. The keyboard-only user can toggle between the captions and the Viewer controls by pressing the Enter key.
  • Consider further testing on mobile devices and with NVDA to learn more about how Mix performs.

Notes from PCC

  • According to Karen Sorenson, Accessibility Advocate for Online Courses at PCC, Office Mix is screen reader accessible (with NVDA), even the interactive quizzes.
