Two Gradebooks in Sakai 11
In Sakai 11, there are two Gradebook tools:
- Gradebook Classic is the same Gradebook tool that has been around for many years. With the upgrade to Sakai 11 in late 2016, it was renamed Gradebook Classic. If you used the Gradebook prior to the Sakai 11 upgrade, this tool will look very familiar.
- Gradebook is a new tool rolled out with the Sakai 11 upgrade in late 2016. It features an editable spreadsheet view of grades, for easy grade entry.
NOTE: Instructors can choose to use either gradebook tool -- or BOTH! The two Gradebook tools share the same data, so you can do some tasks in one tool and the data will appear in the other. For example, you can set up categories, weights, and items in Gradebook Classic, and then use the newer Gradebook tool for entering grades if you like. If you're already familiar with Gradebook Classic, enabling both tools in your site can be a good way to start learning the newer Gradebook tool. |

Extra Credit
Both gradebook tools provide methods for handling extra credit.
How are Grades calculated?
The Gradebook automatically calculates a course grade based on the number of points scored out of the total points submitted (i.e., a running grade). Ungraded items will NOT be included in the course grade calculation, so the course grade will not necessarily reflect the student's true score.
