Screencast-O-Matic Install Instructions

How do you install Screencast-O-Matic?

Here are the instructions for installing Screencast-O-Matic on a Windows 7 pc, using the Firefox web browser. You can also download Screencast-O-Matic using Chrome and on a Mac. After the first few steps, you can either download the Screencast-O-Matic launcher or download the Screencast-O-Matic app.

1. Go to the Screencast-O-Matic home page: http://screencast-o-matic.com/home
2. Click on the Start Recording button
3. It will try to Launch the Recorder. If you have Java installed correctly and it is up-to-date, you could give permission to Java to run -- but often it is not up-to-date or enabled. Instead, at this point, you have two choices:
   1. Download the launcher or
   2. Download the full app
   3. See below for detailed install instructions for each choice.

Download the Screencast-O-Matic launcher

• In the middle of the web page, below the heading "Get recorder launcher!", click on the Download launcher link
• Click on the dialog box for the Installer, then click on the Save File button
• In the upper right area of your Firefox toolbar, click on the blue down (download) button
• Click on the Install file's Run button; you'll receive a pop-up letting you know the Screen Recorder is ready. Click OK.
• In the middle of the web page, you'll see the message "Download Started!", below it, click on the try again link; you'll see a pop-up window for the Screen Recorder Launcher; click OK; you'll now see the Recorder appear.
• You can now record your screen or use your webcam to create a video recording.

• To restart the launcher:
  • Click on the Home button on the Screencast-o-Matic web page
  • Click on the Start Recording button
  • Click OK on the pop-up window for the Screen Record Launcher

Download the Screencast-O-Matic full app

• Go to the Screencast-O-Matic home page: http://screencast-o-matic.com
• Click on the Start Recording button
• It will try to Launch the Recorder. If you have Java installed correctly and it is up-to-date, you could give permission to Java to run-but often it is not update-to-date or set up correctly.
• Instead, Download the full app:
  • Under Frequently Asked Questions, under the first question "What if I can't get it to work in the browser?", click on the link to Download the full app install
    • Click on the Download Install button
    • Click on the Save file button
    • On the Firefox toolbar, click on the Down (Download) arrow
    • Click on the Run button; click Next, then Install. I suggest you click beside "Create Desktop Shortcut", then click Finish. Click on FREE Recorder.
    • You're now ready to record your screen or use your webcam to create a video recording.

• To restart the full app:
  • Click on the Home button on the Screencast-o-Matic web page
  • Click on the Start Recording button
  • Click OK on the pop-up window for the Screencast-O-Matic full app
