To add your instructor and/or course information to your course site, after you’ve logged onto Sakai, you’ll edit the Site Information area:

  1. Click on the tool named Site Info on the left-hand course menu.
  2. Click on Edit Site Information (the first link at the top of the Site Info tool).
  3. Go to the Description box and use the text editor to enter and format your instructor and/or course info.
  4. When done adding your instructor/course information, click Continue, then Finish (or your changes won’t be saved).

To see what your course home page looks like, click on the Home button on the course menu.

TIP: To get ideas, you can view examples of Home Pages from various courses.

Lessons

Lessons is a flexible tool for adding content to your Sakai site.

  • If the content you want to share with students is mostly in the form of files or documents -- like PowerPoints, Word docs, PDFs, and so on -- then the Resources tool may be all you need.
  • But if you want something a bit fancier -- if you want to create pages with text, graphics, videos, and links to web sites, files or assignments -- then you will want to use the Lessons tool.
  • With the Lessons tool you can create subpages to organize your content. For example, many instructors create a subpage for each week of the course, so students can find the week's materials and assignments all together in one place.

Podcasts

  • Note: After adding the Podcasts tool:
    • The first time you add and upload a podcast (mp3 file), a folder titled "Podcasts" will be created in the Resources tool.
    • As a result, every podcast added/uploaded to the Podcasts tool, will automatically be added to the Resources Podcasts folder.
    • Therefore, podcasts added to the Sakai course site can be accessed via both the Podcasts tool and the Resources tool.
  • Podcasts - Upload your Podcasts (Rutgers)
