Gradebook

In Sakai 11, there are two Gradebook tools:

  • Gradebook Classic is the Gradebook tool that has been around for many years. If you used the Gradebook prior to the Sakai 11 upgrade, this tool will look very familiar to you.
  • Gradebook is a redesigned tool rolled out with the Sakai 11 upgrade. It offers an editable spreadsheet view of grades, for easy grade entry.

Instructors can choose to use either gradebook tool -- or BOTH! The two Gradebook tools share the same data, so instructors can do some tasks in one tool and the data will appear in the other. For example, you can set up categories, weights, and items in Gradebook Classic, and then use the newer Gradebook tool for entering grades.

If you are already familiar with the older Gradebook Classic tool, enabling both tools in your site can be a good way to gradually learn how to use the newer Gradebook tool. (You can hide one of them from students. The students' view in both Gradebooks is very similar.)
