Assignments
The Assignments tool provides the following for instructors and students:
- Instructors can easily collect student papers or files (such as documents and pdf's)
- Instructors can use the Turnitin feature to check student submissions for plagiarism
- Instructors can grade submitted student papers and files online
- Students can see their Assignment grade and instructor feedback online, at anytime

Turnitin

- How do you set up Turnitin? Follow these instructions for using the Turnitin feature with the Assignments tool: Video | Handout
- How do you grade Turnitin Assignments?
- After setting up your Turnitin Assignment following the instructions above, become aware of the basics of grading Assignments: How to Grade an Assignment in Sakai: Video | Handout
- Now that you're aware of the grading basics, click on Assignments, under your Assignment title, click on Grade.
- In the grading area, the Turnitin column is located next to the Grade column, and is called Turnitin.
- For each student, below the Turnitin column, you'll see a colored icon representing a Turnitin Report; or "no report", if a student didn't submit the assignment.
- After you click on a student's Turnitin Report, you may have to click on Accept, to access the student's report.
- Next, a new browser tab will open, and by default, will display the Originality Report.
- To find out how to use the Originality report, you can review Turnitin's Instructor Originality Check information
- For advanced grading, you can also use Turnitin's Grademark tool to add comments to your student's Turnitin Reports.
- For information on how to use the Grademark tool, you can review Turnitin's Instructor Grademark information
- Now that you're aware of the grading basics, click on Assignments, under your Assignment title, click on Grade.
